ABOUT PROJECT

Monitoring the Impact

Vilnius city won the Mayors Challenge organized by Bloomberg Philanthropies with their innovative project aimed at transforming Vilnius into a citywide school. The project envisions that at least 10% of study time is spent outside traditional school settings, utilizing spaces such as museums, companies, parks, and other public venues. Given the project’s scale, a robust monitoring system is essential to track progress and ensure the achievement of key milestones.

The Challenge

How can the transformation of education in Vilnius city be effectively monitored?

The Context of the Challenge

Following its win in the Mayors Challenge organized by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Vilnius is set to transform into a citywide school, with a significant portion of educational activities taking place outside conventional classrooms. Such a large-scale educational shift necessitates a comprehensive monitoring strategy to track developments and meet established goals.

The Approach

01
System Development

We developed a monitoring system with key performance indicators and timelines for achievement.

02
Baseline Study

We conducted an initial baseline study in the project’s first year to assess the current level of extracurricular activities and students’ motivation.

03
Monitoring

We implemented annual surveys for pupils and teachers in Vilnius to gather necessary data for project monitoring. This also included data analysis on time spent outside of school and its correlation with academic achievement.

The Insight

Lessons conducted outside of school are proving to be engaging for pupils and are making the educational process more interesting. Consistent with other studies on student engagement, younger students (elementary level) show higher motivation and interest in learning compared to older students.

The Change to the Context

01

Shaped
the Perspective

We established a monitoring system and key performance indicators for the project, helping to define and refine its primary objectives.

02

Integrated
the Data

Our support in data generation aids decision-making processes, influencing the direction and activities of the project.

03

Framed
the Process

Our involvement in this educational transformation ensures that various aspects of the project are interconnected and based on research, fostering integral and sustainable development.
