SU-MENĖK (Become Artsy) is a modern art initiative in Vilnius, designed to increase public engagement with art during the less active winter months.
How can we encourage people to participate in the city’s cultural life during winter?
Vilnius has a vibrant cultural scene in the warmer months, but winter brings stagnation to galleries, museums, and other art spaces. Recognizing this, the Vilnius City Municipality sought a solution to reinvigorate cultural engagement during the colder season.
Every year, SU-MENĖK presents a new direction and concept of “becoming artful,” expressed through a unique slogan and visual identity. As the years pass, the ideas of SU-MENĖK continue to evolve, reflecting different perspectives on contemporary art and its impact on personal and cultural growth. Each edition introduces fresh themes, styles, and artistic approaches, inviting participants to explore, question, and immerse themselves in ever-changing creative experiences.

Data analysis and best-practice research were conducted to establish a strong foundation for change.
A clear vision and framework for transformation were developed.
A visual concept was created, including adaptable scenarios.
An integrated visual language was developed to support the initiative.
Over the years, various adaptations of the concept have been implemented.
Experiencing art is not just about the artwork itself but about the relationship between the art and the observer.
When external conditions (such as weather) change, the environment for artistic experiences must adapt accordingly. By making art more accessible in an artistic manner despite the cold, we created a new, elevated cultural experience for the city.
Broad Stakeholder Acceptance – The initiative successfully connected the municipality and the public through contemporary art. It has been running for six years and continues to thrive.
Increased Engagement – The number of visitors to galleries and museums grew up to eightfold.
Dedicated Public Transportation – More than 3,000 people use the dedicated transport service over four weekends every year.
