Ukrainian Woman (U–Woman) is a Creative Europe – funded initiative building a pan – European community of Ukrainian women working in arts and culture. The project strengthens the international visibility of Ukrainian cultural identity while supporting artistic careers through a dedicated community platform, cross–border collaboration, and professional development.
How might we create a long–term cultural ecosystem that connects Ukrainian women artists across borders and turns visibility, skills, and networks into sustainable careers?
Since 2022, Russia’s war against Ukraine has dramatically disrupted cultural life and creative ecosystems, especially affecting women cultural professionals whose artistic work intersects with caregiving, displacement, and activism. In this context, there is a pressing need for institutional support that goes beyond short‑term projects and provides long‑term visibility, networks, and professional tools for artists whose voices document, interpret, and transform wartime experience. Ukrainian Woman emerges as a cultural response that places women’s narratives and creative agency at the heart of Ukraine’s ongoing cultural resilience.
We developed and operated the CCC community and platform – setting the structure, growing the network, and sustaining engagement through curated connections and access to international opportunities.
The project offers training, mentorship, and capacity‑building designed to strengthen participants’ artistic practice, curatorial competencies, and use of digital tools for global outreach.
Through cross‑border cooperation, women artists connect with European cultural networks, enabling joint programmes, co‑curated works, exhibitions, and peer‑to‑peer exchange.
Large‑scale online exhibitions, webinars, and collaborative digital content provide platforms where artistic work can reach wider international audiences and institutional partners.
Art transcends borders – and when women’s voices are central to cultural storytelling, the narrative of conflict, survival, and identity gains nuance, agency, and global resonance. By anchoring the project in community, digital innovation and international cooperation, Ukrainian Woman transforms individual creative journeys into a collective cultural impact movement.
Artists from Ukraine and across Europe now share a common platform to connect, collaborate and build sustainable artistic practices, expanding cultural exchange and mutual learning.
Participants access mentorship, events, exhibitions and international exposure – strengthening careers and enabling a more robust global presence of Ukrainian female cultural creators.
The project amplifies Ukrainian cultural narratives through digital and hybrid formats, helping ensure that women’s artistic contributions remain visible within European cultural ecosystems.
