ABOUT PROJECT

SHED is the only co-living brand that offers opportunities for self-expression and growth. Co-living not only fulfils the need for sociability, security, and charisma, but also ensures a personalised environment, accumulates new experiences, unexpected themes, and a wide range of possibilities.

SHED is the only co-living brand that offers opportunities for self-expression and growth. Co-living not only fulfils the need for sociability, security, and charisma, but also ensures a personalised environment, accumulates new experiences, unexpected themes, and a wide range of possibilities.

The Challenge

Can a Co-living brand be personalised and be open for personal growth?

The Context of the Challenge

The European co-living market has become increasingly competitive, particularly in cities attracting international students and digital nomads. Many brands offer sleek aesthetics and community-driven promises — but few go deeper into the emotional landscape of their users. SHED entered the market not just to offer modern accommodation, but to spark identity-building experiences. That ambition required a brand capable of holding space for reinvention.

The core challenge was crafting a brand that could speak to multiple audiences at once. For residents, SHED needed to feel inspiring, empowering, and socially magnetic. For parents — often decision influencers — it needed to convey trust, safety, and care. Balancing these emotional drivers while carving out a fresh, provocative visual language was the strategic tightrope we walked.

Approach

We built the brand around the insight that personal growth is often driven by the environment. Rather than positioning SHED solely as a co-living provider, we focused on its role as a catalyst for transformation. The identity embraces bold messaging like “Meet the new You” and “Fresh start”, reflected through expressive visuals, dynamic interiors, and interactive brand touchpoints that encourage self-exploration and agency.

Naming

A shed is a small, simple outdoor structure used to store tools or gardening equipment. The term “shed” originates from the word “shade” and means “hut.” “Shed” also functions as a verb meaning “to cast off,” similar to a snake shedding its skin. Additionally, one can shed intangible things, such as undesirable habits.

Logotype

The logo visually represents the idea of shedding one’s old self and embracing a new beginning. This concept is symbolized by the space above the letters, which represents the “new you.”

The Insight

The brand’s core concept, that one’s surroundings can transform a person, was reflected in almost every aspect of the brand, from interior design to brand identity.

Visual Identity

The visual language for the brand was designed to include a wide range of elements, from humorous doodles to 3D objects and illustrations. During the branding process, we discovered that positioning could be effectively conveyed through photo and video manipulations. These playful key visuals often tell the story of a person transforming or becoming their new self in a cozy or liminal space. For the typography, we chose Suisse Int’l, which helps create a balance between the brand’s diverse elements and the sometimes playful key visuals, resulting in a modern and trustworthy appearance. The layout builds on the logotype’s concept of a “new you,” with all elements working together under a simple guiding principle: everything is constructed on top of the logo.

The Change to the Context

Shed has quickly established a successful co-living presence across Europe, initially launching in Lithuania and rapidly expanding to Latvia and Poland, now operating five locations. Renowned for its community-driven accommodation, Shed appeals particularly to students and young professionals by offering modern, fully furnished studios alongside shared amenities such as co-working spaces, gyms, social lounges, and organized community events.

Tools

We developed and supplied a comprehensive library of visual assets and provided guidance and examples for both internal and external use. Furthermore, we supported our partners in the development of the client’s website.
